Recently upgraded the firmware of my Linksys wireless router (WRT54G) to v1.00.10 and cost me 2 days in finding out what the hack was happening.
Once upgrade, only my Mac no longer be able to connect to anything online becuase it wasn’t assigned no IP address. My wife’s IBM notebook is working ok.
Later I found out that its the firmware causing all these trouble from Linksys forum. So until there anything fix out there. You would rather stick to v1.00.9 instead.
Download v1.00.9 firmware is available from their FTP.
If you happen to be relying on OS 9 only apps for your daily work, here’s some good news. There may be some sort of solution to run Mac OS 9 on Intel Mac, here and here. However there’s really no way to ensure whether your app will run in such environment. Maybe you should ask your friends with Intel Mac to try it out first before you order your brand new Intel Mac. At least there’s some sort of solution out there for you.
Now there are more upgrade path to the Intel Mac Mini other speed boost using Core Duo coz someone has successfully upgraded with Intel Core 2 Duo!! Check it out
However it still can’t beat the dual G5 2.5GHz in Photoshop 7 test yet. At least until some time in 2007 when Adobe releases the next update to their Creative Suite. Until then I’ll hang on with my trusty old Mac.
HiveLogic now has updated their detailed article on installed Ruby on Rails on Mac OS X
This problem only happens to me when I’m using the ISP with EnterNet 300 and it’s definitely a “mtu” related problem and more or less due to the tuning of ISP itself. You won’t notice it until you are downloading email or web page or anything which never get through.
If you happen to have problem getting through a EnterNet 300 broadband connection, you may try this “sudo ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1400” in Terminal where ppp0 is the connection to your broadband modem.
The last number can be anything lower than the default 1500. You can check the available connection by issue “ifconfig -a” in Terminal.
