Why I Won’t Buy an iPhone

Here’s an interesting article from Business Week about buying iPhone … or NOT buying iPhone really.

iPhone 1.1.1 to 1.0.2

If you happen to have an iBrick, you probably want to “unbrick” it. There’s instruction to downgrade iPhone firmware 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 but the steps aren’t for the faint of heart.

Apple update disables unlocked iPhones!!

According to MacWorld, the iPhone update 1.1.1 will disable unlocked iPhones!!! So if you are using unlocked iPhones, avoid applying the update until there’s a fix.

Unlocked iPhone may become inoperable?!

The article from MacWorld “Apple warns unlocked iPhones may become inoperable” indicates Apple may do something to stop unlocked iPhone in the future?

I’m not sure if we are the cat or the mouse. People will try to break in, and it’s our job to stop them breaking in, said Steve Jobs.

iPhone is coming to France

Apparently Orange has signed an agreement with Apple to distribute iPhone in France according to CNN.

However this isn’t in Apple’s Press Info page yet by the time I’m writing about this. But I think it’s a done deal. Good for France.

Where’s my iPhone 2.0?!

iPhone is coming to Europe

2 news so far.

On 18 September, Apple announced their partnership with O2 in UK as the exclusive iPhone service provider.

LONDON‚ September 18, 2007‚ Apple and O2 announced today that O2, the leading wireless carrier in the UK, will be the exclusive UK carrier for Apple’s revolutionary iPhone when it makes its debut in the UK on November 9. iPhone combines three devices into one‚ mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the best mobile Internet device ever‚ all based on Apple’s revolutionary multi-touch interface and pioneering software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. Apple sold its one millionth iPhone just 74 days after it went on sale in the US on June 29.

And on 19 September, Apple announced their partnership with T-Mobile in Germany for iPhone.

BERLIN‚ September 19, 2007‚ Apple and T-Mobile today announced that T-Mobile, the leading network operator in Germany, will be the exclusive German carrier of Apple’s revolutionary iPhone when it makes its debut in Germany on November 9. iPhone combines three devices into one mobile phone, a widescreen iPod, and the best mobile Internet device ever all based on Apple’s revolutionary multi-touch interface and pioneering software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. Apple sold its one millionth iPhone just 74 days after it went on sale in the U.S. on June 29.

When will Apple announce iPhone partnership in Hong Kong then? Christmas 2007 maybe? But I guess probably Apple will land in Japan first for their almost contained (aka monopoly) mobile market with a few providers.

Unlock your iPhone for free without dissassembly

Thanks to the folks from the iPhone Dev team. Finally there’s a free software only solution to unlock the iPhone so that you can use any service provider. Read the unlock instructions here.

Since it’s free, the authority in US (namely AT&T) can’t stop this from spreading unlike the case with iPhoneSimFree.

No more cracking open your iPhone nor paying the overpriced unlock iPhone … for now. Thanks again to the iPhone Dev Team!!

iPhone early adopters get credits from Apple, do you?

In a response to the rage about the recent price slash from iPhone early adopters, Apple has decided to give US$100 credit at Apple Store (both online & retail stores).

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple’s website next week. Stay tuned.

Do you get any sort of credits back from the local seller of unlocked iPhone at all? I doubt that will ever gonna happen.

Kiss goodbye to your money and get over it!
