iPod shuffle gets even smaller and it talks to you!!

Apple has just released the world smallest music player, iPod shuffle with VoiceOver. The new iPod shuffle has only 1 button on its body. The control now move to small control near the right ear bud with 3 clickable areas to control every thing.

The new iPod shuffle definitely looks fantastic. Selling at US$79 (HK$600), it’s quite an affordable stylish body ware. But I’m still waiting for the iPod Touch & iPhone update coming in the next few months. It’s been such a long wait.

Apple dives into netbook market after all?!

Dow Jones Newswires reports Apple will be launching touch screen netbook as soon as the second half of this year!

The mini laptop computers will likely have monitor screens that are between 9.7-inches and 10-inches, one person, who declined to be named, said.

Another person said other specifications and functions are still under evaluation.

They mention the format but not the price. It would be an expensive “netbook” though 8p

New Mac arrives finally

The long overdue update for Mac Pro, iMac, Mac mini has finally arrived. Apple Store (US store is up though) & Apple.com is still updating and the distorted web site is something that I’ve never experienced ever before. Akamai caching issue maybe?

The most signacificant update should be Mac Pro now using Intel “Nehalem” Xeon processors and Mac mini gets NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor.

The Mac Pro high end configuration supports 8-core processors. That should be lighting fast for anything. But the Mac mini update is a bit disappointing. I was hoping for a more accessible casing instead of the same old case that requires 2 putty knifes to crack open.

BTW, iMac supports up to 8GB of RAM and Mac mini supports up to 4GB of RAM. Not bad huh?

Flash is coming to iPhone for real?

Bloomberg.com reports that Adobe is working (with Apple?) to bring Flash to iPhone finally.

“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating,” Narayen said today in a Bloomberg Television interview from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”

Well, we’ll see about that. It’s been a long time since Adobe & ARM announced their partnership back a few months ago. I guess it’ll be a slow process provided that it’s made for performance on ARM devices, iPhone particularly.

Whacky Apple concept products of the past

Before the iPhone, iPod or the Newton, there were plenty concept products which have never made it to the production line. Here’s some whacky products from some old magazines.

Apple finally gets Mark Papermaster

An Apple press release indicates Apple will finally get (the ex-IBM staff) Mark Papermaster as senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering, reporting to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, on April 24

Apple will launch netbook in 2009?

This article from “Taiwan Headlines” is surely interesting since a lot of Apple fan boys having been praying for this. In 2009, it might actually happen.

Quanta is expected to add Sony and Apple as clients for the contract manufacture of netbook computers in 2009

Yeah, you read that right. A Mac netbook from Apple. Save your money for Uncle Steve. No more fiddling with those horrible eee peecee.

Is this the moment we’ve been waiting for…

As MacRumors pointed out this before the WWDC keynote takes place, Apple Store Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Australia are closed with “We’ll be back soon” note! Event the iPhone Dev Center is closed as well. Could this be the very moment that Asia has been waiting for almost a year? Is that true that iPhone is coming to town on Tuesday?! Are you excited? iPhone SDK coming out on 6th March 2008

In case you haven’t heard yet. Apple will announce the iPhone roadmap & SDK on Thursday 6th March at a special media event. The keyword is “enterprise”. I wonder what sort of “technology” will iPhone be “compatible” with enterprises which only know about PC & Windows. Could it be Microsoft Exchange support on iPhone?! We’ll find out next Tuesday!

[update] So yes!!! I predicted correctly. The enterprise part of the event is the MS Exchange support as Apple has licensed ActiveSync from MS. That makes iPhone officially endorsed by enterprises. Plus 1 for Apple!

iPhone SDK is available now. Watch the event here.
