Officially unlocked iPhone 3G available in Hong Kong

This week, Apple have updated their online store for Hong Kong with iPhone 3G which isn’t availble before from Apple Store directly. 8GB iPhone at HK$5400 and 16GB iPhone at HK$6200.

What’s the best thing about this is the iPhone 3G is unlocked!!! It doesn’t bind you to any mobile operator!! Woohooooo!!!! Yes, it’s about time!!!

Update: HK$5400 and HK$6200 translate to US$675 and US$775 respectively. So iPhone doesn’t start at US$199 at all. Plus the 3G data plan will only satisfy you and make you happy unless you choose the most expensive “unlimited” access plan.

Such plan will cost roughly HK$500 per month from all mobile operators in Hong Kong. That’s US$62.5 per month and also requires at least 1 year of service committment if not 2 years.

All in all, the total cost of ownership for a entry “happy” iPhone 3G user will be

HK$5400 + HK$500 * 12 = HK$11400

And for the so-called “unlimited” access may not be truely unlimited as in common sense of any broadband users. There are terms like the mobile operator can cut you account or something like if your data transfer amount is huge. That’s such a lie for so much so “unlimited” access.

iPhone (2.0?) coming to Hong Kong finally

According to a local newspaper Economic Daily, THREE HK will be carrier of iPhone (no mention of version 2.0 or 3G) in August. But it’s an non-exclusive deal with Apple. PCCW hasn’t deny or admit whether they will be one of the carriers of iPhone.

Here’s the newspaper clipping in Chinese.

iPhone 2.0 arrives on 9 June?!

WIth AT&T deploying its 3G network, various reports that it’s time for 3G iPhone to roll out. Some even mentioned a specific date 9th June, which is the date that Steve Jobs will give speech on the keynote of WWDC. I wonder if this could bring iPhone to Asia officially.

3G iPhone on its way?!

According to iPod Observer, Apple may has ordered 10 million 3G iPhone to boost the European market … and Hong Kong maybe?!

3G iPhone coming in 2008 confirmed

“You’ll have it next year” said AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson when he’s asked about 3G iPhone. So you might just wait a little bit longer. Surfing in EDGE in normal web content is …. slow. That totally defeat the purpose of having Safari on a mobile device 8(
