Midnight in Paris

Watched Midnight in Paris today with my wife. Overall it’s entertaining and it’s almost becoming a Sci Fi movie. With less Woody Allen’s mumble jumble and the movie is much more enjoyable 8p

Seeing all the great artists of the past appearing on the big screen and speaking their mind out loud in hilarious script is just what makes the movie so great. I have much resonance from this quote between Gil & Ernest Hemingway.

Gil: I would like you to read my novel and get your opinion.
Ernest Hemingway: I hate it.
Gil: You haven’t even read it yet.
Ernest Hemingway: If it’s bad, I’ll hate it. If it’s good, then I’ll be envious and hate it even more. You don’t want the opinion of another writer.

It’s so funny at this professional angle. This point of view more or less speaks my mind completely 8D

Owen Wilson did a great job in bringing out the characters with all the actors & actresses.

This movie is just full of memorable quotes through the great artists, writers, painters, directors, all sort of true creative minds of “the golden time”. Should make this your must see movie of the year.

Worth 4 stars out of 5.

Watch the Midnight in Paris trailer on YouTube or head over to the official website if you haven’t heard of this movie yet.

Avid photographers

You’ll always see a bunch of seemingly professional photographers in the street of Mongkok shooting during weekends. But don’t get it wrong. The subjects aren’t anyone famous. They are some young models of some sort of promotions in the busiest area of Hong Kong. I always tease them as a bunch of horny males that I would like to call 咸濕仔 wakaka

Enjoy the scene!

Enable gesture in Firefox with Lion

Mac OS X Lion works for me ok so far but the most missed feature is swiping to go back & forwardin Firefox with 2 fingers with Magic Mouse. Just Google up this page to make gesture working again in Firefox.

System Preferences - Apple Magic Mouse options

In short, go to Systems Preferences > Mouse.

Change “Swipe between pages” to use 2 fingers instead of the default 1 finger.

Then the “Swipe between full-screen apps” will be turned off. If not, do it manually.

Apparently this tricks works for Chrome as well.

Now I’m a happy camper again.

UPDATE: This apparently doesn’t work any more after upgraded to 10.7.1. You may have better luck with jitouch. Thanks Joe for the tip 8)

Thor the movie

Great to be one of the first to watched Thor the movie today. The plot is old school fairy tale and there isn’t much surprise. The film is executed well so there’s no reason not to see it as a Marvel fan. It is packed with actions & beautiful scenes of Asgard.

The story starts with Jane Forster knocking down Thor in the middle of nowhere as he gets banished by Odin for Thor’s own stupid act.

Like other Marvel superhero movies, Stan Lee was on the big screen for a split second in the beginning. Just love to see da man for all his brilliant creations. Then the fairy tale continues on how the immortal learn to become a true king material on Earth. This is the rather obvious part.

For the Norse god’s custom in the film, as Jane Foster puts it “nice outfit”. And I love how Sif looks! See for yourselves 8)

There can never be enough actions for an action hero movie, don’t you think?! Would like to see more Thor in action battling whatever or whoever putting Asgard or Earth in danger, and more of Jane Forster on the big screen.

The destroyer looks like some monster from Ultraman though. A bit odd there.

Worth to watch Thor beating people & stuff nonetheless.

Don’t miss the clip at the very end after roller for the next movie hint. After you’ve watched the movie, tell me what the heck is that thing please! The stuff from Black Panther’s home country?

Thor’s one of the character I like in the Marvel universe. The reason is probably the fading fond memory of the mid-70’s Marvel cartoon series when I was tiny 8D

Can’t wait to see Thor in action again in The Avengers with others.

The new Apple TV alternative

Are you longing for the new Apple TV but it’s not available in your country? No problem! Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. an iDevice capable of running iOS3.0, practically any iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.
  2. Air Video app for your iDevice (US$2.99). It support live convert so you can actually watch your movie remotely on 3G connection.
  3. The free Air Video Server for your Mac or PC to stream video to your iDevice
  4. Apple Component or Composite AV Cable to connect to your TV (US$49 each)

The above 2 items with price are what you need to buy.

You’ll probably want to install DivX & RealPlayer & possibly other decoders on your Mac or PC so that the Air Video Server can playback your movie files. Once you’ve added your movie folder to the server, you are almost good to go.

Video playback performs best on WiFi but it also works on 3G if your boardband service support it.

The server has a remote PIN so that you can locate your home computer remotely with ease. Like most Apple product, this just works. It can playback Real media, mkv, as long as the decoders’s playback method are recognized by the server. It also supports conversion to m4v so that you can queue the conversion of your files from your iDevices.

This is a great solution for those don’t want or can’t buy the Apple TV.
