The third Hong Kong Apple Store unwraps itself at Hysan Place finally (at least on the outside poster of the the mall). It will occupy 2 floors in the mall in Causeway Bay. So it should have the signature Steve Jobs staircase inside.
Is your Mac among the 600K Mac inflected with Flashback trojan
I don’t know if it’s true that so many Mac worldwide got inflected with Flashback trojan.
Anyhow there is a simple way to check whether your are inflected with Terminal.app. In case you are too scared to fire up Terminal or too lazy to copy & paste the verify & removal commands from F-Secure, I just put together an AppleScript to verify for you.
My AppleScript helps you to VERIFY whether your are safe
or inflected
It doesn’t REMOVE the trojan.
You can download my AppleScript Flashback Trojan I Checker here. Just double click to run the AppleScript app.
BTW, Apple has release a Java security update for patch the vulnerabilities. You definitely should do a Software Update.
Updates: Apple just releases a second Java security update!

Apple Event on 7 March
The Loop has reported Apple is having a media event on 7 March, 2012.
From the image of the invitation, it looks like that the next iPad has no home button at all. It says
We have something you really have to see. And Touch.
Let’s see if there’s a 7 inch iPad 3 (no likely) and whether the home button is really gone on the next iPad. iPad 3 with Quad core A5X & A6 chip, 4G LTE, bla bla bla… keeps flooding the web these few days.
Steve Jobs inspired the world
The first news in the morning is Steve Jobs has passed away at the age of 56. That’s sadden my whole day.
I’ve been fascinated by the colorful Apple logo since I was very very young. Back then computer means either IBM or Apple, but Apple computer is what I ever wanted. It’s different. It’s stylish & fun. Well at least that what I perceived when I was 7, looking at the colorful logo comparing to IBM’s. However, getting a computer was way expensive than most families can afford in 80’s.
My first computer lesson was with the Apple ][e doing some basic programming. I was 11. It was fun to know that one can create something with BASIC. That was so interesting. Since then I was hooked on computers, and Apple. That moment, I wanna do programming when I grow up.
Fast forward to 90’s. I finally had my real computer, a Mac Iici. It was an amazing computer. It can do things that you can’t imagine with an IBM clone!
Typing stuff with Microsoft Word, drawing stuff with Adobe Illustrator for my father, and playing with Hypercard, the former life of the web, on System 6. Controlling everything with a mouse was so cool! Everything is so different than the so-called “main stream” and that’s how I like it. I just love Macintosh & Steve Jobs.
There are plenty moments that I was blown away by Apple & Steve Jobs, and Pixar all these years. The Mac, OS X, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and etc.
And I felt particularly connected with the Think Different campaign.
Watch the video: The crazy ones
Attending the MacWorld Expo Tokyo in 2001 gave me the closet encounter with him. However, this is the one & only encounter that I can ever have now.
He’s been my hero since I ever know about computers, a true innovator, and the god of demonstrations. He’s part of the reason for what I’ve become, a web and iOS developer now.
RIP Steve Jobs. You’ll be missed forever as the world has missed its compass of innovations.
Apple Store IFC mall
The first Apple Store in Hong Kong opens today at IFC mall!! The end of queue to get into the store was somewhere near the Central Post Office around 12pm today. Felt like it’s a queue to migration department’s counters to some other country at peak travel season.
I’ve never seen so many security guards in the mall ever. The store is packed with fans. You can see the Steve Jobs’ signature staircase from afar. And the store does look amazing.
Take a few photos on both sides of this remarkable Apple Store but I didn’t go in myself. Today is the important day that I should be celebrating my wife’s birthday instead of doing anything else 8D
The new Apple TV alternative
Are you longing for the new Apple TV but it’s not available in your country? No problem! Here’s what you’ll need:
- an iDevice capable of running iOS3.0, practically any iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.
- Air Video app for your iDevice (US$2.99). It support live convert so you can actually watch your movie remotely on 3G connection.
- The free Air Video Server for your Mac or PC to stream video to your iDevice
- Apple Component or Composite AV Cable to connect to your TV (US$49 each)
The above 2 items with price are what you need to buy.
You’ll probably want to install DivX & RealPlayer & possibly other decoders on your Mac or PC so that the Air Video Server can playback your movie files. Once you’ve added your movie folder to the server, you are almost good to go.
Video playback performs best on WiFi but it also works on 3G if your boardband service support it.
The server has a remote PIN so that you can locate your home computer remotely with ease. Like most Apple product, this just works. It can playback Real media, mkv, as long as the decoders’s playback method are recognized by the server. It also supports conversion to m4v so that you can queue the conversion of your files from your iDevices.
This is a great solution for those don’t want or can’t buy the Apple TV.
