Thoughts about new iPods

Some thoughts about those new iPods that I would love to hear from others.

Can I install Mac OS X on iPod nano, classic, touch to boot my Mac?

My guess is you can do so with nano & classic but not touch by default since it’s already running its own OS X. But I would like some confirmations about this. Booting from NAND RAM will be lightening fast for sure.

On iPod touch, can I input NEW contacts and calendar events and sync it back to my Mac?

If I can do so, iPod touch will be the MessagePad 2007 except it doesn’t/won’t die like Newton in any short time frame. It will be a very cool PDA / music player.

Then my next question is about iPhone. Since there’s iPod touch, does that mean Apple is unable to get into some markets at all. Some markets like those currently NOT on iTunes store namely Hong Kong.

For me, there’s a lot of services / technologies unable to land in Hong Kong or boom here as there are 7 mobile service operators. That’s 7 different protocols we are talking about. Imagine the nightmare just to create something to be compatible with all 7 companies. Even the technology is ready, revenue sharing will be the ultimate hurdle.

But we’ll see if Apple can work this out in the coming days. I think it would be a fight between PCCW & Vodafone in Hong Kong for the iPhone contract.

I wonder when iPhone arrives, what will its price be? US$399 for a 16GB iPhone? Hmm….. that would be lovely.

In case you haven’t heard people screaming about the iPhone price slash. It’s only 2 months or so that Apple is now phasing out the 4GB mode and slash price on the 8GB model at US$399. That’s US$200 less than the original suggested price US$599.

For those folks selling unlock iPhone in Hong Kong at ridiculous price, good luck!
